SUSIE BROWN TO LEAD MINNESOTA COUNCIL ON FOUNDATIONS

MINNEAPOLIS (3/20/2019) –Following a national search, the Minnesota Council on Foundations has selected Susan (Susie) Brown as president, effective April 22nd. Ms. Brown is currently the chief operations officer for the newly merged Minnesota State Bar, Hennepin County Bar and Ramsey County Bar Associations and Foundations.

“We are delighted that Susie will be joining MCF as the new president,” said Kim Borton, board chair. “Her passion for serving members and her outstanding experience are the right combination to lead our collective advancement of prosperity and equity across Minnesota.”

Ms. Brown has spent her career in the nonprofit sector. Before joining the Hennepin County Bar Association and Foundation as executive director, Ms. Brown was public policy director at the Minnesota Council on Foundations. She previously served as executive director for Child Care Works, after holding public policy leadership positions in Minneapolis and Burlington, VT.

“The Minnesota Council on Foundations is highly regarded locally and nationally,” said Ms. Brown. “I am excited about the possibility of working to grow the organization’s connection with its members and to enhance the high-quality services it provides. My plan is to get off to a quick start--I look forward to learning from staff, members, board, and community stakeholders in this process.”

An active community member, Ms. Brown serves on the Community Advisory Council of the Greater Twin Cities United Way and on the boards of MACC: Metropolitan Alliance of Connected Communities and GrantAdvisor. She also serves on various committees of the National Association of Bar Executives and the Conference of Metropolitan Bar Associations. Previously, she was a member of Minnesota Council on Foundations’ public policy committee.

Ms. Brown is an adjunct faculty member at Hamline University where she teaches courses in nonprofit management and governance. She holds a BA degree in international affairs from Lewis and Clark College and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Vermont, where she earned the Frank Smallwood Student award. She was a Policy Fellow at the Humphrey Institute in 2006.

The Minnesota Council on Foundations (MCF) connects our state’s vibrant philanthropic communities. MCF members represent three-quarters of all grantmaking in the state, awarding more than $1 billion annually. Members include foundations and giving programs, and together they deepen our impact in Minnesota, while creating a more prosperous and equitable future.
