JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
GREENHOUSE AIDES
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
Opening: March 18, 2019
Closing: April 2, 2019 @ 3:00 p.m.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To be responsible for the preparation, irrigation and inventories of seedling grown at the Red Lake Greenhouse. Reports to the Forest Development Forester, part-time position(s), salary; $12.00 hrly.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
• Clean, sterilize, fill and seed grit containers used in the greenhouse
• Perform duties such as thinning and transplanting to provide an acceptable number of seedling per container
• Monitor and record seedling health and growing conditions in the Greenhouse log book
• Report findings to the Greenhouse Manager so corrective action can be taken if necessary
• Inventories of seeds in cold storage
• Inventories of seedlings in the Greenhouse and Shade house as needed
• Keeps all buildings clean and organized
• Inventories supplies at the beginning of each crop and end of crop
• Use of personal protective Equipment every day
• Collects cones at seed orchards when ripe
• Assists with other forest development projects whenever needed
• Performs other duties as assigned
EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School diploma or equivalent; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Training or experience in basic Greenhouse concepts with specialized knowledge in soil and water testing
• Knowledge of seedling inventory techniques and basic computer operations are required
• Ability to recognize disease and pests damage and nutrient deficiencies of seedlings
• Must possess good math skills in order to calculate application rates and seedling inventories
• Must be able to perform heavy lifting up to 70 lbs
• Required to have a physical examination to determine the presence of allergies and their physical abilities
• Required to pass a pre-employment UA
