The Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians is accepting applications for employment, as an independent contract employee, to hire an Assistant Tribal Prosecutor/Special Assistant United States Attorney (SAUSA) for the Red Lake Tribal Courts.

The Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians has been identified as a partner with the Minnesota United

States Attorney's Offices for the establishment of a Tribal Prosecutor/Special Assistant United States Attorney (SAUSA), with the primary objective to increase the prosecution and successful conviction of drug crime related cases, through prosecution, enhanced investigative training and prosecutorial coordination.

The Tribal Prosecutor/Special Assistant United States Attorney will work full time on the prosecution of cases concerning drug sales, trafficking, possession and intent to distribute, that are committed on the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians. In addition, the Minnesota United States Attorney's Offices may also request that the Special Assistant United States Attorney assist in the prosecution of drug crime related cases.

This position will be full-time for a minimum term of three (3) years, the number of hours, days of employment and compensation are negotiable and in accordance with the Grant Award. The terms of employment will be determined by the agreement of the parties. The contract shall be compensated on an hourly basis.

The Tribal Prosecutor/Special Assistant United States Attorney position will be under the supervision of the Tribal Prosecutor of the Red Lake Tribal Courts, Red Lake, MN.

In addition, in regard to cases being prosecuted within the Minnesota Federal District Court system, he/she will be supervised by their respectively assigned Assistant United States Attorneys.

The statutory prerequisites for employment are: To be eligible to serve as a Tribal Court Assistant Prosecutor, a person shall (1) be a member in good standing of the bar in any State or Federal Court; (2) at least 21 years of age, (3) be of high moral character and integrity, (4) have a law degree from an (ABA) accredited law school, (5) must never have been convicted of a felony; (6) shall not have been dishonorably discharged from the Armed Services, and (7} must be physically able to perform the duties of the office.

Employment of this individual is also contingent upon the completion and satisfactory adjudication of a background investigation by one or both of the adjoining United States Attorney's Offices.

The worksite for this position is located at the Red Lake Tribal Courts in Red Lake, MN and is coordinated with the Tribal work day, which is 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (Central Time).
