Melchior Mudgett, "Taśuñka Wañbdi" (Eagle Horse) 56 of Oberon, ND passed away on Friday, February 15, 2019 at CHI, St. Alexius Health, Devils Lake, ND in the loving care of his dear family.

A visitation and gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Fort Totten from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Services for Melchior will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Crow Hill Recreation Center, rural Fort Totten with burial in St. Jerome's Cemetery in the spring. The procession to the Crow Hill Recreation Center will leave at 9:00 a.m. from the City Plaza. Pastor Brandon Wegener will officiate.

Melchior was born on January 19, 1963 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the son of Allen and Lillian (Thomas) Mudgett Sr. At a young age, he moved with the family to the Fort Totten area of the Spirit Lake Nation. He started his elementary education in St. Paul, then attended the Wahpeton Indian School and graduated from Fort Totten High School.

He was a hard worker and worked for a time at Sioux Manufacturing Corporation, Dakota Tribal Industries and Kmart. He was employed with Elvis Thumb Construction until his declining health forced him to retire.

Melchior loved to ride horses and motorcycles. He loved the freedom of the outdoors and going places to visit with family and friends. You knew Melchior was having a good time, when he was teasing, joking around and laughing with family and friends. Melchior was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Your time with us was too brief and we will miss you and love you always.

Melchior is survived by his loving family. His daughter Bobbi Sue Mudgett; grandson Shawn Mudgett; siblings Rose Mudgett, Arthur (Cindy) Mudgett, Rodney (Mary Jane) Steve, Richard (Elisa) Mudgett, Matthew Mudgett, Chris (Julie) Mudgett, Greg Mudgett, Perry (Sharon) Mudgett Sr., Jerrid (Janet) Mudgett Sr., Bennett Mudgett; siblings from the Choctaw Tucker Community in Mississippi Karen Chickaway, Dolliann Steve-Willis and Eddie Humble, from Choctaw Bogue Chitto Community, Kathy McMillan and from Choctaw Bok Homa Community Rodney Steve and Linda Martinez of Carthage, Mississippi and Judith Yellow of Rapid City, South Dakota; sister-in-law Joni (late Mark) Mudgett; aunts Jennie Royce, Grace Eiffler, Joyce Madigan, Lorraine Greybear; uncle Jesse Mudgett and many nieces, nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Allen and Lillian; sisters Corrina Steve and Vicki Steve; brothers Curtis, Ronald Sr. and Mark Mudgett; nephews Parker Mudgett, Darrett Mudgett and Nilus BlackLance Jr.

Pallbearers for Melchior will be Louie Dubois, Darren DeMarce, Alfred "AJ" Littlewind, Mark Shaw, Elvis Thumb, David "Dobs" Riggle, Loren Greybear, Melvin Greybear Jr. and Richard Littlewind

Honorary Bearers will be Germaine DeMarce and family, Roger "Busty" McKay, Inez "Frankie" Chaske, Terry Dunn Sr., Maynard Dunn, Bruce Mindt, Kevin Mindt and Sam McKay.
