BP: Northwest Angle petition falls short of signature requirement

NORTHWEST ANGLE, Minn. -- The much-ballyhooed petition to make Minnesota’s Northwest Angle part of Canada flopped, garnering only 5,544 of the required 100,000 signatures within 30 days to bring the measure up for White House review.

The petition made news in late December and early January, when word of the plan surfaced in the media. The Northwest Angle, of course, is that little piece of Minnesota that juts into Canada and is surrounded by Canada on three sides -- Manitoba to the west and Ontario to the north and east.
