Lawrence Gilbert Eagleman

February 14, 1947 - January 7, 2019

Lawrence "Gilbert" Eagleman Sr., 71 of Moorhead, MN formerly of the Spirit Lake Nation, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Sanford Health in Fargo.

Lawrence G. Eagleman was born on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1947 at Fort Totten, ND, the son of Lawrence and Elizabeth (Redday) Eagleman. He grew up on the Spirit Lake Nation, attending St. Michael's Mission School through 2nd grade, then attended the Wahpeton Indian School. He attended high school in Flandreau, South Dakota.

Gilbert entered the United States Armyh on April 10, 1968 and honorably and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge on March 29, 1970, Gilbert returned to North Dakota. Gilbert was at one time married to Judy Johnson and they were the proud parents of a son, Christopher.

In the early 1970's Gilbert moved to Minneapolis and made his home there for 30 years. As a jack-of-all-trades he worked a variety of jobs, most were in construction. He married his beloved Lisa Walker and they had many years of happiness and welcomed another son, Lawrence Jr. As Lisa's health deteriorated Gilbert took on the role of caretaker, doing whatever he could to make Lisa's last years. Their son Lawrence died in 2010 and Lisa went on to the Spirit World in 2011.

For the last 3 years, Gilbert has lived with his sister in Moorhead and was so glad to be closer to family and friends.

Gilbert faced each day with a smile and a sense of humor. He always found a way to make you laugh. He enjoyed playing guitar, watching old movies (so old they were still in black and white), collecting eagles and thus couldn't help but be a Philadelphia Eagles fan.

He was a kind, good hearted man who served his country with honor, cared for his family the best he could and loved spending time with his relatives and friends.

Gilbert is survived by his son Christopher (Jennifer) Eagleman of Minneapolis; three grandchildren Taylor, Kaylee and ????; sisters Janice Feather, Moorhead and Renita (Dallas) Delorme, St. Michael; brothers Thomas Lee, Fargo and Roger A. Feather, Fort Totten; many nieces, nephews and other dear relatives.

He was welcomed home by his parents; wife Lisa; son Lawrence Jr.; brothers Joseph Coming Hay, Levie Eagleman and Oliver Eagleman; sister Evalina Jetty.
