Beltrami County Sheriff's Office employees recently recognized for ICLD achievements

Bemidji, MN: The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with the Minnesota Sheriff's Association is pleased to recognize three of its employees for recently completing leadership development courses through the Institute for Credible Leadership Development (ICLD), a division of the International Academy of Public Safety (IAPS), who is responsible for administering leadership development curriculum for law enforcement agencies globally. Receiving certificates of recognition are Communications Officer's Ashlan Barthorpe and Katherine Arguedas, and Deputy Brian Birt.

The Institute's founders and executives believe that every officer is a leader. We recognize that from the moment men and women swear to the oath of office and put on their "badge" of distinction, they are looked upon as leaders in their community and within their scope of responsibilities. It is our vision to equip all public safety leaders and future leaders with the knowledge and skills required to enhance operational efficiency and health, sustain public trust, reduce liabilities and retain the best talent.

The ICLD is delivered on-line, so it can dramatically reduce training costs, is an interactive, self-paced program and intended to be delivered to all personnel. Everyone in the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office can speak the same language about leadership and be in alignment about what to expect of leaders. These courses are a perfect complement to the nationally recognized law enforcement leadership programs.

The course material is delivered in four phases. The main advantages of the the ICLD courses are: They are up-to-date, researched and field-tested, knowledge and competency-based, and geared toward developing the intellect while enhancing the leadership skills of all personnel in your agency. Phase IV is an opportunity to understand and perform the complex knowledge, skills and tasks that exemplary leaders perform. The content of Phase IV was researched and field tested for over a period of more than 30 years in university and justice and public safety environments including police, corrections, customs, immigration, homeland security and private security. It is based on the breakthrough book titled, Every Officer is A Leader: Coaching Leadership and Learning in Justice, Public Safety and Security Organizations (Revised 2nd Edition). The course was filmed at LAPD and piloted in collaboration with Deputy Chief Mark Perez and his Team of Leaders at the Los Angeles Police Department. This highly competent team was carefully selected to be able demonstrate the skills involved of Credible Leadership throughout the course. Individual courses in Phase IV include:
