School Board Reorganizational Meeting held in Red Lake - P2

New Board Members and Reelected Members Sworn Into Office

RED LAKE, MN - The Red Lake Board held their annual Reorganization Meeting on Monday, January 7, 2019, and one of the first orders of business was the swearing in of newly elected members.

Taking the Oath of Office from Board Chairman Michael Barrett, were reelected members Barb Thomas and Roy Nelson, and newly elected members, Robert McClain and Marcus Tyler. All recently elected members will serve until 2023.

This was also the first time ever that the Red Lake School Board now has seven members, rather than 6 since the district was first formed.

In other business, Michael Barrett was elected Board Chairman again, Chris Jourdain was elected Vice-Chairman, Barb Thomas was elected Board Clerk and Robert McClain was elected Board Treasurer.

Regular monthly meetings were set for the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 2 PM, and Special Meetings would be called as needed.

The Board made no change to it's compensation schedule, although an amendment was presented and voted on to decrease compensation by 25%, but failed by a vote of 1 for and 5 against.

The Board voted to designate Kennedy & Graven as the District's legal counsel, designated the Bemidji Pioneer as the official newspaper designated the Minnesota School District Liquid Asset Fund, First National Bank of Bemidji and Border State Bank of Clearbrook as official depositories, and granted corporate certificate of authority to Melinda Crowley, Superintendent, William Larson, Business Manager and Robert McClain, Board Treasurer for transactions with the Minnesota School District Liquid Asset Fund, First National Bank of Bemidji and Border State Bank of Clearbrook.

Board Committee Assignments were also discussed and will be finalized at the next Regular School Board Meeting, which will take place on January 23, 2019--this date had been changed because of the MSBA January 2019 Conference.
