MAINTENANCE WORKER

RED LAKE REGIONAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE COMPLEX

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

To accomplish the maintenance and general regular work on all buildings, utilities, structures, grounds and other related functions; reports to Facilities Manager, full-time position with benefits, salary; DOQ.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Performs mixed duties of a general nature necessary for the proper operating maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities, includes carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, water and sewer plant operations and other trades

• Performs the operation of automotive, bobcats and comparable equipment as required

• Required to do simple labor tasks as an incidental part of the general duties

• Cleans and shovels snow and debris from sidewalk and maintains building grounds

• Maintains power-driven pumps, cleans, greases or oils, adjusts and makes necessary repairs as repacking pumps, renewing gaskets, etc. Connects pipe lines, operates and maintains pumps supplying water to lateral distribution system

• Maintains buildings by performing minor and routine repairs when necessary for the proper operation, maintenance and repair including painting, plumbing, electrical and other related maintenance activities

• Performs preventative maintenance duties for proper maintenance of all facility buildings

• Required to work in the Facilities Maximo system.

• Performs routine inspections on the Housing Quarters rental units

• Performs routine inspections on all propane tanks percentages

• Must have ability to read blue prints

• Maintains inventory of all buildings and property

• Notifies management concerning need for major repairs or additions to lightening, heating and ventilation equipment.

• Oversees all Facilities building for health and safety conditions and ensures that they are maintained in clean and sanitary condition

• Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

• Must be familiar with hand tools and power equipment that is characteristic of the trade

• Makes repairs, additions and alterations on wood-structured buildings and sheds.

• Must be able to build forms, re-shingle roofs and do inside and outside finish work, installs floor and ceiling tile as well as applying wall paneling, finishes sheetrock walls, installing pre-finished cabinets, trim work and hanging of doors.

• Must be able to perform construction and maintenance laborer duties such as: loading and unloading trucks or other equipment with materials requiring handling in the building trades such as sacks of cement, cement blocks, lumber and lumber supplies, radiators, heating equipment and furniture. Digs ditches and shovels snow when other helpers are not available. Performs lawn and ground maintenance work.

• Must possess the ability to perform manual labor and lift up to 25 lbs.

• Must be able to assemble and install water and waste lines and must be skilled in the use of tools of the trade. Sets, tubs, lavatories and other plumbing fixtures. Cuts and threads pipe which is necessary to hook water and waste lines on maintenance work. Repairs and maintains the water and plumbing in all buildings. Opens clogged drains, replaces washers on leaky faucets and performs other duties related to the plumbing trade

• Must be able to paint the interior and exterior of buildings, houses, sheds and other structures. Removes old paint, sands and varnishes and/or paints

• Must possess the ability to understand the follow written and verbal instructions

• Must be able to perform “scope of work” specifications for targeted work details

• Must have no felony convictions

• Must be able to maintain proper supplies on hand and ability to order material and/or supplies

• Must possess a valid Minnesota State Driver’s License

• Employment is contingent upon passing a pre-employment drug test and background check.
