Headwaters Open-mic

Local folk-punk musician and storyteller Shannon Murray hosts the January edition of Headwaters Open-mic CoffeeHouse. The CoffeeHouse, held on the first Friday of most months, runs from 7 to 10pm on Friday, January 4 at Headwaters Music and Arts in Bemidji. Sign-up begins at 6:30.

"First Friday Coffeehouse was the first place I performed for an attentive, supportive audience," Murray noted. "I was learning to play. As a host, I am looking forward to being part of creating that environment for other performers."

Headwaters Open-mic features music and spoken word performance in a family friendly environment. All ages and skill levels are encouraged to sign up for a 10 to 15 minute set. Performers and audience alike appreciate the welcoming tone and reasonable fee, $3/person or $7/family. Good coffeehouse fare is provided by Cantabria Coffee Co.

Murray has shared her music and message throughout the country. "I approach guitar playing and songcraft like it's a contact sport," she said, "with intensely political and deeply personal songs."

Headwaters Open-Mic CoffeeHouse is a volunteer-led community event. Contact John Henningsgaard at 444-9845 for more information.
