WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CST FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches expected. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.

* WHERE...Portions of north central and northwest Minnesota.

* WHEN...From 6 PM this evening to noon CST Friday. The majority of accumulating snowfall is expected this evening into Thursday morning. Winds will increase on Thursday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel should be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility Thursday afternoon and overnight. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening commutes. Cold wind chills Thursday night as low as 25 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of eastern North Dakota, west central and northwest Minnesota.

DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

The first round of snow will move into the region by this afternoon and continue into tonight. 5 to 10 inches of snow is expected for much of the region by Thursday morning. The heaviest snowfall is expected along and west of the Red River Valley.

DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday

There may be a brief break in snowfall Thursday morning. The second round of snow will bring at least 6 inches of additional snowfall to portions of southeast North Dakota and west central Minnesota Thursday into Thursday night. The potential exists for a narrow area of a foot or more of snow. There will be a sharp cut off to nearly no snow to the north during this period. Travel could be difficult to near impossible due to this heavy snow.

Winds will become north and increase on Thursday. Blizzard conditions are expected within the Red River Valley Thursday afternoon and overnight. Travel could be impossible.

Cold wind chills of 25 below to 30 below zero are also expected Thursday night into Friday morning.

Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Temperature rising to around 25 by 5am. East wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

Thursday

Snow. Patchy blowing snow after 2pm. High near 26. Blustery, with a north wind 9 to 14 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Thursday Night

Snow, mainly before midnight. Patchy blowing snow before 3am, then patchy blowing snow after 5am. Low around 5. Blustery, with a north northwest wind 18 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Patchy blowing snow before 8am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 7. Wind chill values as low as -17. Blustery, with a north northwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.
