Donald Leonard Staples Sr.

“Ozhaa Wash Ko Giizhik (Blue Sky)

Donny, also known as Big D to many was born on December 7, 1973 in Minneapolis the son of Karen (Soupy) Staples and Harry (Diddy) Davis Jr. He was raised in Minneapolis by his mother with the help of his grandparents Leonard & Evelyn Staples and special aunt Joanne Connor.

Growing up in the East Phillips neighborhood Donny was involved in various sports. In 1985 he played baseball for Little Earth, his undefeated team and they became Mpls Park Board City Champs, an accomplishment his team and coaches were proud of. Donny was a big fan of the Mn Vikings, Mn Twins and Mn Timberwolves.

While growing up he enjoyed spending time with his grandmother Evelyn whom also liked to tease and would tell him that "He was only a good boy when he was sleeping". He would go onto becoming a father of three children whom he deeply loved. He was a loving and caring son, brother, uncle, nephew & friend. He especially loved kids like his little cousin Harley Quinn, who was born on his birthday as he predicted in 2014. He later gave her the nick-name "Lil Rowdy Rhonda Rousy" because of her right hook.

Donny was a private man, who was also outgoing, charismatic and had a great sense of humor that often led to teasing. He would make many lifelong friends and considered a brother by many.

Donny obtained his GED in the late 90s and was a Carpenter for many years.

He enjoyed being with his family especially his children and grandchildren whom he loved to spend quality time with. He also loved visiting and joking with his family and friends.

Many can agree with Derek Olson who said that "Donny showed me that family doesn't always mean by blood. He stood by family and friends without hesitation. He is a warrior and now all of our Guardian Angel".

May he continue to protect us & rest in Paradise.

Survived by three children: Donald Staples Jr. & Ashley Marie Staples (mother Angela Olson) & Donaya Sue Staples (mother Carla Ramirez); grandchildren: Brooklyn, Joseph & Faith; mother: Karen Staples-Gonzalez; father: Harry Davis Jr.; brothers: Rudy Gonzalez Jr., Weylin & Aaron Davis; sisters: Beverly, Roxanne, Dione and Katherine Davis, grandmother: Martha Davis, other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his grandparents Leonard & Evelyn Staples, Harry Davis Sr., aunts & uncles.
