Janice Jean Hunt, 64 years young, of Old Agency, Minnesota went home on Saturday, December 8, 2018 to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born in Cass Lake, MN on September 15, 1954, the daughter of Phyllis (Chief) and James Hunt, Sr.

Janice grew up in Old Agency and graduated from Walker High School in 1972. She went on to further her education at Bemidji State University and graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology. Janice began her employment with the Leech Lake Reservation in the Health Division in January of 1980 and worked there until March of 2014, when she took a medical leave of absence. Janice served many constituents through out the years and became close with her co-workers, Susie Roy Beaulieu, Sally Simone Pemberton, Brenda Dahl, Chris Finn and Tim Beaulieu, who became family. Janice was very committed, loving and devoted to all her family members, including the day to day care of her parents and niece-daughter Brenda "Miss Bitty" Hunt. Her and her brother Eli, whom she greatly missed, took great measures to ensure their entire family was well taken care of. They also ensured that all significant dates were all celebrated. Janice had very strong beliefs in her God and always wished well for all. She was the Matriarch of our large family, was very loved and will be greatly missed.

Janice is welcomed home by her children; Nettla Leeann, Gwewizanze and Abenogee Hunt, parents; Phyllis and James Hunt, Sr., sisters; Donna, Brenda, Helen, Alice and Louella Hunt and Judy Littlewolf, brothers; Roland, James Jr., Ronald, Ernest, Eli and Spencer Hunt, grandparents, special aunt; Florence Cloud and several other relatives.

Those she leaves behind to cherish her memory are her life long partner of 42 years; Darwin Kingbird of Old Agency, sister; Peggy Hunt of Old Agency, brothers; Melvin Hunt of Old Agency and Matthew (Ruthie) Hunt of Onigum, niece-daughter, Brenda "Bitty" Hunt; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members and too many friends to list.

A wake for Janice will begin at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 12th at the Onigum Community Center and will continue until her 2:00 p.m. funeral service on Friday, December 14th at St. John's Episcopal Church in Onigum, MN. Reverend Matthew Cobb and Bill Butcher will officiate. Pallbearers for Janice will be Chris Finn, Tim Beaulieu, Jage Hunt, Ronald Hunt, Nathan Hunt, Keith Tucker, Jesse Hunt and Torrey Kingbird. Her honorary pallbearers are Brenda Hunt, Susie Roy, Sally Pemberton, Brenda Dahl, Cookie Cloud, Coleen Gullickson, Ronnie Gustafson, Carol "Ruthie" Wright, Nancy Kingbird, Faith Abram, Susan McMurrin, Shirley Dunn, Linda Jane Butcher, Cindy Jackson Kingbird, all her nieces and nephews and all her friends and family of the Leech Lake Reservation. Interment will be in the St. John's Episcopal Cemetery at Old Agency, MN.
