BP: Bemidji art gallery, Red Lake, White Earth in line for grants

BEMIDJI—The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community is set to donate $5 million to nonprofits and American Indian tribes, four of which are in the Bemidji Area.

The Bemidji Community Arts Council will get $35,000 to renovate the Miikanan Gallery at the Watermark Art Center downtown; Red Lake Nation will get $200,000 for affordable housing this fiscal year and another $300,000 the next; the White Earth Reservation Housing Authority will get $75,000 to buy and install 20 new furnaces; and White Earth Nation will get $50,000 for the Mahnomen Head Start playground.
