Northern Minnesota woman fatally stabbed; 34-year-old son in custody

BENA, Minn. — Police say a woman in the north-central Minnesota community of Bena died after suffering multiple stab wounds they believe were inflicted by her adult son.

According to the Cass County sheriff’s office, Joy Marie Matthews, 54, was found unresponsive early Wednesday at a residence in Bena, which is 35 miles east of Bemidji on the Leech Lake Indian Reservation.
