One dead after officer-involved shooting in Bemidji

Bemidji, Minn. (Valley News Live) One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Bemidji.

Police say the shooting happened the night of Wednesday, Nov. 28 around 11 at the intersection of 30th St. NW and Ridgeway Ave.

Police say they pulled over a car and noticed a passenger in the back of the vehicle that had a felony warrant for their arrest.

Authorities asked the person in the back to exit the vehicle. When the person was getting out of the vehicle, they noticed the person had a handgun.

Officers then fought with the person to get control of the gun. During the fight, the officer and deputy fired their guns, hitting the person.

EMS pronounced the person dead at the scene.

The Minnesota BCA is now investigating the shooting.

The officer and deputy involved are now on standard administrative leave.
