Lewis County prepares to charge former Cowlitz Tribe leader with animal abuse

Lewis County will file animal abuse charges against former Cowlitz Indian Tribe leader Roy Wilson and his wife “in a day or two,” Senior Deputy Prosecutor Brad Meagher said Monday.

The couple are suspected of keeping numerous animals in extremely unhealthy and filthy conditions at their Winlock home. Roy Wilson, 91, was an elected leader of the Cowlitz Tribe for three decades, an author of several histories of the Cowlitz Tribe and a retired Methodist minister.
