Jerry S. Sargent

February 3, 1933 ~ November 10, 2018 (age 85)

Gerald "Jerry" S. Sargent, age 85, of Bemidji, began his spiritual journey on November 10, 2018 at the Sanford Hospital in Bemidji, MN. He was born on February 3, 1933 in White Earth at the White Earth Hospital, the son of George and Sophia (Bellanger) Sargent. He was one of eleven children.

Jerry was a member of the White Earth Band of Ojibwe Nation. He was grew up and attended school in Nay Tah Waush. Following school, Jerry joined and served in the United States Army during the Korean War era and was honorable discharged. Jerry married Lorraine Lightning and together they had seven children. He later married Gloria McDougall and they had one child; Jesse Sargent, Sr. Gloria and Jerry happily celebrated their fifty first anniversary together. Jerry worked for Bemidji Schools at the Nymore Arena for twenty some years and for Broun Tank as a welder and served other jobs in the Minneapolis area. Jerry will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

The family that Jerry joins again are his parents; George and Sophie, siblings; Donna, Annette, Bernadine, Marlys, Donald, William, Earl and Ervin, sons; John Stout, Charles and Thomas.

Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory are his bride of fifty one years; Gloria, son; Jesse (Jackie) Sargent, Sr., Les (Tessie) Sargent, and Vern Sargent, daughters; Doris, Bernadine and special caretaker and daughter, Juanita Sargent Tesar, special granddaughters; Michelle and Rebecca Calliflower, and Tasha Sargent, special grandsons; Walter Lajeunesse, Darrian Sargent, Jesse Sargent, Jr. and Eprain Sargent, special nephew; Gary Sargent, special nieces; Sherri Newago and Vangie McDougall.

An overnight wake for Jerry will begin at 5:00 p.m., Friday, November 16th and continue until his Celebration of Life being held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 17th all being held at the White Earth Community Center in Cass Lake, MN with Father George Ross officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be his special nieces; Julie Lufkins, Angie Schmit, Akilah and Andrea King. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
