Special School Board Meeting held on Friday, November 9, 2018

RED LAKE – A Special School Board Meeting was held on Friday, November 9, 2018 at the Administrative Building at 2 PM.

All Board Members were attendance except for Chris Jourdain who was excused from the meeting.

In the Consent Agenda, the Board accepted a resignation from Alexander Ferris, a Paraprofessional, effective on December 9, 2018; accepted a retirement request from Rhonda Dudley, a Paraprofessional, effective October 27, 2018; and approved hiring JoAnne Hinckley as a Special Education Teacher for the District.

The Board also approved hiring the following coaching positions for the Winter Sports Season: Head Coach, Boys Basketball, Roger White; JV Coach, Boys Basketball, Keveon Kingbird; JH Coaches, Boys Basketball, Gerald Kingbird and Chris Jourdain; Assistant Boys Basketball coach, Scott Schafer; Head Coach, Girls Basketball, Randy Holthusen; JV Coach, Girls Basketball, Tatianna McClain; JH Coaches, Girls Basketball, Tara White and Whitney Spears; Assistant Girls Basketball Coach, Nolan Desjarlait; and Cheerleading Coach, Sue Roy.

A transfer request from Kevin Patterson, a Paraprofessional, into a bus driver position was approved; the hiring of Rebecca Johnson as a bus driver for the district was approved, and approved the following as Paraprofessionals for the district: Ashley Goulet, Alicia Hardy, Phylis Norcross, Mariah Head, Tia Drouillard, Tara Cook and Tara Kingbird.

Additions to the Non-Licensed substitute list were approved, along with additions to the licensed substitute list, approved adding and posting of a Tier 3 Paraprofessional for the district, approved a retirement request from Chris Johnson, a teacher, effective October 23, 2018, accepted a resignation from Kristie Desjarlait, a Security Guard and approved adding Jennifer Loud on the substitute bus drivers list pending DOT and UA results.

The Board approved Resolution 2018-6, Canvassing Returns of Votes of the Red Lake School District General Election, approved Resolution 2018-7, Canvassing Returns of Votes for the Ballot Question, approved the yearly contract with Red Lake Nation News and had some discussions on other items pertaining to the School District.

School Board members reelected were Barb Thomas and Roy Nelson, and members elected were Robert McClain and Marcus Tyler. All newly elected members will be sworn in at the first meeting in January 2019 and will serve until their four years expire in 2023. In January the School Board will then consist of 7 members rather than 6.

Construction on the addition to Red Lake Elementary School and other renovations will begin in July 2019 and will cost between $14 and $14.5 million.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:37 PM.

The Regular School Board Meeting for November is set for Wednesday, November 21, 2018, 2 PM at the Administration Building.
