John S. Knight fellowship application now open

The John S. Knight (JSK) Journalism Fellowships supports diverse leaders from around the world who are deeply engaged in exploring solutions to the most urgent issues facing journalism, which we define as:

• Challenging Misinformation and Disinformation.

• Holding the Powerful Accountable.

• Eradicating News Deserts and Strengthening Local News.

• Fighting Bias, Intolerance and Injustice.

Applications for the JSK Class of 2020 are now open. They will be accepted through Dec. 4, 2018 for international applicants. U.S. applicants have until Jan. 31, 2019 to complete their applications.

We will select up to 20 fellows for our next class. From September 2019 to June 2020, those fellows will spend their time on individual and collaborative projects. Although we are not an academic program, they will have the option to sit in on Stanford classes, while also participating in special workshops and weekly events, and exploring the abundant resources at Stanford University and throughout Silicon Valley.

Fellows define, develop and refine projects that have the potential to create meaningful change in journalism. If you aspire to be a change agent to help transform journalism, we encourage you to apply.

We provide JSK Fellows with several benefits, including base stipends of $85,000, health insurance and Stanford tuition, and we provide additional support for fellows with children. Partners and spouses of fellows experience some of the same benefits of the program, with some exceptions. For more details, read our Benefits of a Fellowship page.

We will group our 2019-2020 fellows into teams. This framework will allow fellows to find ready partners  within their own class to explore key questions and journalistic passions together, seek potential solutions and learn from each other, while celebrating the different experiences and perspectives that make up the class.

Please check out our eligibility requirements here.

In early 2019, we plan to extend fellowships to international finalists, and we will invite U.S. finalists to Stanford for interviews. We will announce the JSK Fellowships Class of 2020 in April 2019.
