New Poll Finds 70 Percent of Minnesotans Want Option to Buy In to MinnesotaCare

St. Paul, Minn. – Minnesota Public Radio and the Star Tribune on Monday released a new public opinion poll showing that 70% of Minnesotans want the option to buy in to MinnesotaCare, compared to 11% who oppose it. The poll found overwhelming support for the idea across all ages, geographic regions, and partisan affiliation.

“In the past my colleagues on the other side of the aisle refused to consider this idea as a solution to rising health care costs, but to continue doing so would be to ignore the will of the people,” said Senator Tony Lourey (DFL-Kerrick). “Minnesota’s health care system faces serious challenges. This is too important for lawmakers to not put all of our options on the table. Using existing public systems like MinnesotaCare to negotiate a better deal for everyone has got to be part of the conversation. This boils down to a decision between doing what’s best for big business or doing right by Minnesotans who continue to be priced out of the market.”
