Headwaters Music & Arts hosts what may well be Bemidji's first Story Slam. The theme? Speak. Inspired by the #metoo movement with the larger goal to build bridges, find voice and be heard, we look forward to an evening of real human expression and connection, along with lots of laughter and just plain fun. Hosted by professional storyteller Laura Packer, up to ten participants will tell a true story no more than five minutes long. Judges will be pulled from the audience. Prizes of $75, $50 and $25 will be awarded. The Headwaters Story Slam competition is open to women and men ages 18 and older. The event is free with a $5 suggested free will donation.

Prior to Headwaters Story SLAM! there will be a workshop with Laura Packer. This informal session with Laura Packer gives participants the chance to learn about storytelling fundamentals, get tricks and tips for dynamic, engaging storytelling, and work one-on-one with Laura as they develop your story. Participants do not have to participate in Headwaters Story SLAM! to attend the workshop. Preregistration is required. The cost to attend is $25. The fee includes Keg 'n Cork meal, instruction and materials. The workshop will be held before the Headwaters Story SLAM!, 4 – 7pm, Thursday November 1st.

Those who would like to participate in the workshop or the Headwaters Story SLAM! can register by
