Arrest made after Marijuana grow operation discovered

TURTLE RIVER TOWNSHIP-BEMIDJI, MN: On Friday, September 28, 2018, at approximately 4:15 PM, a Beltrami County Deputy was investigating the theft of a motor vehicle, the theft investigation brought him to a residence on the 5600 block of Pincherry Road NE in rural Turtle River Township. The 5600 block of Pincherry Road NE is located approximately 3.5 miles east of Bemidji. While at the residence he observed what appeared to be a large number of marijuana plants that had recently been harvested. Contact with the resident and homeowner was made while he was in the process of harvesting of a back yard grow operation.

The homeowner was identified as William R. Christopher, age 66. Christopher was taken into custody and with the assistance of agents from the Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force, executed a search warrant at the residence which resulted in the seizure of a large amount of marijuana plants in various stages of processing. Marijuana was found in almost every room of the residence and the plants varied in size of 4-9 feet in height. Also located with the marijuana were several loaded firearms which included assault type rifles, shotguns, and black powder rifles.

The exact weight of the marijuana is yet to be determined. Christopher was released pending formal criminal charges.
