Headwaters Open-mic CoffeeHouse

Headwaters Open-mic CoffeeHouse looks forward to the second round of its 2018-19 season on Friday, October 5 at Headwaters Music and Arts of Bemidji. Held on the first Friday of most months, the open-mic coffeehouse features music and spoken word performance in a supportive, family-friendly environment. Good coffeehouse fare is available courtesy of Cantabria Coffee Co.

Dennis Montgomery, one of the original members of the Northwoods Folk Collective, returns to host this month's event. Crafted in the early 90"s, the Folk Collective came together to create community and share music; the spirit lives today at the CoffeeHouse.

All ages and skill levels are encouraged to sign up for a 10 to 15 minute set. Sign up begins at 6:30. Admission is $3/person or $7/family.

Last month's CoffeeHouse included a husband and wife duo, a first-time performance from a vocal student, and the soul-soothing harmonies of a family trio.

Montgomery takes the stage in an effort to preserve the songs and stories of the folk tradition. "I'm a storyteller first, I suppose," he said. "Some musicians chart new ground with their work. I like to remember the stuff that's already been done. To keep it alive, part of the conversation."

Headwaters Open-Mic CoffeeHouse is a volunteer-led community event. Contact John Henningsgaard at 444-9845 for more information.
