Federal judge rules in favor of the Band, dismisses the county's countersuit

A federal court judge has ruled in favor of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe granting their motion to dismiss the counterclaim filed by Mille Lacs County in the federal lawsuit filed by the Band last November. The United States District Judge Susan Richard Nelson said on Sept. 19 the county’s counterclaim has no standing.

This ruling doesn’t mean the original lawsuit is over. It does mean the two parties will continue the lawsuit in pursuit of a final answer to the question of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Reservation boundary.
