Headwaters Open-Mic CoffeeHouse kicks off a new season

Headwaters Open-Mic CoffeeHouse kicks off a new season on Friday, September 7 at 7 pm at Headwaters Music and Arts of Bemidji. Held on the first Friday of most months, the open-mic coffeehouse features music and spoken word performance in a supportive, family-friendly environment. Good coffeehouse fare is available courtesy of Cantabria Coffee Co.

Community promoter and musician Carolyn Jacobs hosts September’s coffeehouse, “I was an organizer in the early days of the Northwoods Folk Collective coffeehouses,” Jacobs said. “I am happy to see the revitalization of the open mic at Headwaters.”

All ages and skill levels are encouraged to sign up for a 10 to 15 minute set. Sign up begins at 6:30. Admission is $3/person or $7/family.

Recent coffeehouses included jazz ballads, family folk, punk-rock anthems and much more.

Inspired by snowbird friends at an open mic, Jacobs began playing the ukulele four years ago,. “I play with a uke group in Bemidji,” she said, “occasionally performing at the coffeehouse.” Jacobs also performs with the Bemidji Contraband at monthly contra dances.

Headwaters Open-Mic CoffeeHouse is a volunteer-led community event. Contact John Henningsgaard at 444-9845 for more information.
