Democrats Move to Block Reported DeVos Proposal to Spend Federal Dollars on Guns for Schools, Education Department Calls It a 'Hypothetical Scenario'

Senate Democrats moved quickly Thursday morning to try to block a reported proposal by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos to use federal money to arm teachers, part of the swift and nearly universal negative reaction to school funding going to buy weapons.

“Congress doesn’t think this is a good idea. Parents don’t think this is a good idea. Teachers don’t think this is a good idea. Only Betsy DeVos and the gun industry want this. More kids will be killed in schools if this policy is put in place — plain and simple,” Sen. Chris Murphy, Democrat of Connecticut, said in a release.
