Greenbush Race Park

Edginton, Nelson, and Gust get wins at GRP

August 27, 2018

Questionable weather in the area would greet racers and fans as the NLRA Late Models would make their last appearance of the year at the Greenbush Race Park.

Outside pole sitter Mike Balcaen of Winnipeg, MB, would take the early lead in the 13 car, 25 lap race for the NLRA Late Models. The race was slowed by only two cautions, the last on lap 11, but Balcaen held his lead. But eight laps later, fellow Winnipeg racer Shane Edginton would pass Balcaen coming out of corner two for the lead. Edginton would go on to pick up his first NLRA win at the Park. Balcaen would finish second and win his heat, while a good battle for third and fourth as Bill Mooney of Selkirk, MB, edged Joey Pederson of East Grand Forks for third. Brad Seng of Grand Forks, ND picked up the other heat win.

The Midwest Modifieds would send 11 cars out for their feature. Patrick Sobolik of Hallock, MN, was in control for 14 of the 15 laps. Justin Olson of Thief River Falls, MN, had the lead briefly out of corner two, and it was three wide out of corner four as Gary James Nelson of Ponemah, MN, used the high side to pick up the win. Olson would finish second and Sobolik third. Shane Wahl of Greenbush, MN, and Aaron Blacklance of Thief River Falls, MN, got the heat wins.

Only six Street cars were on hand for their feature and Chase Boen of Karlstad, MN, lead the first four laps, when some contact in corner two with Jeremy Gust of Strathcona, MN, would give Gust the lead. Gust went on to get the win, his first of the year, Boen would finish second and Casey Vargason of Edinburg, ND third. Tucker Pederson of East Grand Forks, MN, would get the heat win.

The Modified feature was rained out and will be made up this Saturday September 1st.

The 13 car Lightning Sprint feature would have a slight weather delay about mid-way through their feature. But it was Alex Truscinski of Greenbush, MN, that was in control. Dexter Dvergsten of Greenbush, MN, made it interesting in the closing laps, but Truscinski went on to get his fifth win of the year and a sweep of the evening, Dvergsten would finish second, and Alan Truscinski of Greenbush, MN, third and get the other heat win.

Stan Olson of Thief River Falls, MN, would lead the first seven laps of the 10 car Pure Stock feature, but Darryl Heintz of East St. Paul, MB, would take the lead coming out of corner four. Heintz went on to pick up win number four on the year. A.J. Lane of Williams, MN, and Jared Palm of Warroad, MN, wouldn't make it easy for Heintz as they finished second and third respectively. Palm and Olson picked up the heat wins.
