Sen. Tina Smith holds off Richard Painter, will face Housley in historic matchup

U.S. Sen. Tina Smith defeated Richard Painter, once the ethics chief in a Republican White House, in the DFL primary election Tuesday, setting up the first U.S. Senate race in state history with two women nominees, against state Sen. Karin Housley.

"It's inspiring for all young women out there that they can make a difference," Housley said of the historic matchup in an interview.
