NASA SCHOLARS INTERNSHIP.

In July 2018, recent Red Lake Nation College Graduate Brent Sigana, Jr. was selected to participate in a program called NASA Scholars Internship, presented at Ames Research Center in San Francisco, California.

NASA Internships are competitive awards to support educational opportunities that provide unique NASA-related research and operational experiences for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students, as well as educators. These opportunities serve students by integrating interns with career professionals emphasizing mentor-directed, degree-related tasks, while contributing to the operation of a NASA facility or the advancement of NASA's missions.

Sigana wrote on his Facebook page the following:

Day 3 at NASA SCHOLARS INTERNSHIP.

Going explore the NASA center today. Get to meet the Director of NASA, get to see the Super Computer and many more on the NASA AMES RESEARCH CENTER SITE!

Day 4 of NASA SCHOLARS INTERNSHIP.

I get a chance to do a NASA internship next summer I am hoping for i have to write a 1 page proposal and my resume completed. The manager of NASA had a talk with me yesterday and I let her know my thoughts about recruiting more Native American students from Tribal College's because that was the thought behind the message to get more Natives to come to this internship. So sometime this week I am going to finish my paper and get it in to her. 9,000$ for the 10 weeks of the summer for Graduates for the intern spot. Will let all of yous know later who is the places for the NASA Internship Robotics Competition.

Another student from Sigana's group wrote at the end of the internship:

This experience profoundly transformed my life. What was once unattainable is now reality! Friendships and connections of a lifetime were formed from the #NCAS2018 experience. I have never met such passionate, educated, hard working and team spirited individuals. I found my place in the universe and it is at NASA NASA-Ames Moffett Field. We heard amazing speakers, who believed in us. Visited the supercomputer, centrifuge, simulator, and the worlds biggest wind tunnel! We built a business and simulated a real robot in 2 days while competing for a contract. This was just the boost I needed to make the education process thrilling! I was awarded an MVP award (made from test metal used to create Curiosity Rover), yet I did not deserve it! My entire team was so intelligent and kind. I am honored to have been a part of this experience. Even the NASA astronauts including Mark T Vandehai sent us a congratulations message from the ISS!!! NASA has amazing values and is quite frankly the best company in the world! I miss my team already!! To all the people who made fun of me in school and calls me a space cadet.... thank you because I am.
