OKLAHOMA CITY — President Donald Trump’s administration has urged the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a lower court’s ruling that found that the Muscogee (Creek) Nation’s reservation in eastern Oklahoma still exists.
In a recent court filing, the Justice Department claimed that Congress disestablished the Creek reservation as it made way for Oklahoma statehood in the early 20th century. In making the argument, the federal government, which is the trustee for tribal lands, sided with the state of Oklahoma over the Creek Nation.
