First Nations Releases New "Investing for the Future" Educational Curriculum

LONGMONT, Colorado (August 2, 2018) – Are you interested in learning more about stocks, bonds and asset allocation? Do you work with students and clients who want to know more about the world of investing?

You're in luck! First Nations Development Institute (First Nations) has just released the newly revised Investing for the Future workbook. As part of the Building Native Communities curriculum series, the workbook focuses on teaching basic investment concepts.

"We designed the workbook so that it could be used to teach investing terms and concepts in a straightforward, easy-to-understand way," said Shawn Spruce, the workbook author and a financial education consultant for First Nations. "An increasing number of Native people have money to manage, whether as the recipient of a trust fund payout, a member of an investment committee, or a working professional. The goal of this curriculum is to provide a way for financial educators and others to offer a simple, effective investment training to their clients."

"We frequently get requests for investing workshops that provide an introduction to the world of investing," noted Sarah Dewees, who is First Nations' Director of Programs - Research, Policy and Asset-Building. "We think this workbook will be useful for many financial educators working in Indian Country."

A train-the-trainer workshop on the Investing for the Future curriculum will be held at Northern Quest Resort in Airway Heights, Washington, October 16-17, 2018. The workshop is a great opportunity for financial educators, financial coaches, CDFI staff and other financial professionals to learn more about how to teach investment concepts. The workshop fee is $25 and you must register in advance using the online registration form. Participants will receive a printed copy of the 2nd edition workbook, a copy of a customized PowerPoint presentation for teaching the curriculum, and a resource guide with a collection of teaching tools and exercises.
