PRIMARY FUNCTION

To retain and expand existing businesses, support cultural resources, and attract new opportunities that spur economic growth and help create jobs. Assist Tribal Members who are interested in opening, expanding or relocating a business for the Red Lake Band. Reports to Executive Administrator, full-time position w/benefits, salary; DOQ.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

• Responsible for overseeing day-to-day management of economic development projects and business assistance efforts for the Red Lake Band

• Frequent interaction with businesses and the small business community in general, identifying and connecting businesses to resources, and resolving common and specific issues facing businesses in the Red Lake Reservation Boundaries

• Managing all aspects of a project including but is not limited to opportunity/issue identification, resource identification, managing public approval processes, ensuring timely and on-budget completion of projects, and maintaining ongoing relationships with local businesses and community leaders

• Coordinates developers and business owners through navigating and expediting regulatory, permit, and approval processes

• Create liaison relationships to facilitate communication between businesses, developers, Tribal Officers, local organizations, the community and financial institutions to complete projects

• Ensures that all planning and development department work projects are of high quality and within the goals and objectives of the Red Lake Nation's development needs

• Monitor initiatives at the local, state, and Federal levels that may impact the Red Lake Band's efforts

• Develops and maintains effective working relationships with private companies and public agencies to identify new business prospects and strategic partnership opportunities, and existing business clients in need of assistance

• Attend community meetings, visit project sites, and attend off-site meetings and events

• Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited college or university

• Five (5) year of experience in public or private Economic Development, Government, or Business, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

• Project Management experience with a track record of positive results

• Excellent communication skills; both orally and in writing

• Ability to present diverse and complex information in understandable terms before large groups in an effective and persuasive manner

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse internal and external groups including elected officials, business, community, and civic organizations

• Ability to work both in a team environment with a positive attitude and demeanor

• Possess a current driver's license with auto insurance

• Employment contingent upon successfully passing Pre-Employment Drug/Alcohol Test and Background Check
