Position Title: School Security Team Member

Position Overview: Responsible for contributing to improved student achievement and realization of the school and district vision by protecting students, staff, school district property, and the general public against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry. The school security team member assists staff and students with behavioral issues.

Major Position Duties:

REGULAR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: List of things to accomplish in job function NECESSARY SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILTIES:

• Screen every student, staff, visitor for prohibited items using metal detectors and/or electronic wands

• Monitor security cameras as assigned

• Sign visitors in and out of the building and assist them in finding their destinations

• Patrol hallways as assigned and be visible to staff, students, and visitors

• Check and monitor all doors are secure as assigned/scheduled

• Complete regular threat assessments

• Participate in Quarterly monthly crisis management plan assessment and threat assessment follow up

• Be vigilant for signs of suspicious activity

• Patrol bus departures and monitor student crossings, as assigned

• Use of security and other electronic equipment

• CPR and First Aid

• Defensive tactics

• Threat assessment

• ALICE

• AED

• Right-to-Know training

• Blood borne pathogen training

• Every person entering district facilities is screened, as per district procedure

• During business hours, cameras are continually monitored.

• All visitors follow the established visitor protocol.

• Knowledge of building and staff locations

• All exterior doors are locked.

• Actively attend and participate in all trainings, meetings, and assessments as required

• Suspicious activity is reported and investigated promptly

• Actively participate in drills and crisis situations, taking charge and directing others as necessary

• Redirect students in positive ways

• Work with outside agencies, as directed by supervisor

• Write reports

• Actively respond to student behavior, including, but not limited to, physical altercations

• Customer service

• De-escalation and redirection techniques

• Crisis Prevention and Intervention training

• Understanding of seven grandfathers' gifts

• Build positive relationships with all staff and students

• Understanding of restorative justice

• Understanding of developmental design

• Understanding of adverse childhood experiences

• Interact appropriately with students, using some or all of the following techniques:

o De-escalation language

o Redirection

o CPI

o Seven Grandfathers' Gifts

o Developmental design

o ACES

• Write reports that are complete, factual, and follow established guidelines.

• Build positive relationships with staff, students, and outside agencies

Physical Requirements

• Continuously walk a maximum of four hours per shift

• Continuously stand for a maximum of three hours per shift

• Ability to sit a maximum of one hour per shift

• Ability to bend, kneel, squat

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. occasionally

• Ability to push and pull up to 75 lbs. occasionally

• Full use of both hands

• Continuously complete repetitive movement
