Red Lake Nation voters return Darrell Seki to chairman's post

Darrell Seki, Sr. will be serving a second term as chairman of the Red Lake Nation, according to the unofficial results.

Seki won 53.47 percent of the vote in a run-off on Wednesday. His challenger, Floyd "Buck" Jourdain, a former chairman of the tribe, had 46.53 percent.

In other races, Sam Strong secured the Secretary's seat with 52.17 percent of the vote. He defeated Darwin Sumner, who had been appointed to the seat following the death of Don Cook, Sr., last year.

For Treasurer, Annette Johnson won re-election with 53.74 percent of the vote. She defeated Chad Prentice for the post.

The run-off took place because no candidate won more than 50 percent of the vote on election day on May 16. The results are expected to be certified on Thursday.

The Red Lake Nation is based in northern Minnesota.
