Driver charged after truck carrying heavy batteries crashes on Blue Ridge Parkway

BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY, N.C. (WLOS) — A portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway that had been closed overnight Tuesday to Wednesday is now back open. Officials had closed about 14 miles of the roadway near Cherokee after a truck carrying heavy batteries ran off the road.

Park officials say the truck driver, 36-year-old Wakiem Davis of New Jersey, was cleared to drive Highway 441 to Clingmans Dome. But parkway leaders say he was not cleared to drive a commercial vehicle on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
