Indian Relay has developed into the most exciting and explosive sporting competition between the Indian Nations of the Northern Plains. Teams compete with each other throughout the summer months to earn a place at the Championships held in September each year.

Indian Relay is popular with fans of rodeo and other equestrian events. It’s been called “organized chaos” as bareback riders must complete three trips around the rodeo arena track, changing horses each time. Colorful costumes, painted designs on both horse and rider make for an exciting spectacle. Please support the Horse Nations Indian Relay Council by attending Indian Relay Races in a community close to you this summer.

Horse Nations Indian Relay Council (HNIRC) is made up of all Native American members of the Horse Nations. The goal of HNIRC is to support and promote the traditional lifestyle of Native people through Indian Relay Racing.
