Scientists: National minorities are more prone to mental illness

One of six adults in the United States have a mental illness such as depression, bipolar or anxiety disorder, but African Americans are 10% more prone to mental disorders, and Hispanics 40% more likely to experience serious morale problem. Statistics are worse for American Indians and Alaska natives. And these minorities are less than half receive necessary treatment or counseling than the white population. Scientists see this as a problem and are trying to make medicine an impartial and accessible to everyone.

Doctors urge urgently to eliminate the stigma associated with mental illness, which further tabouret necessary treatment for national minorities. Experts want to find a way to increase investment in research to improve mental health care for ethnic minorities. This includes the involvement of more “colored” people in medical experiments and studies.
