RIVERTON — A failure of oversight by the Bureau of Indian Affairs allowed the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho tribes to misuse $6.2 million in federals funds between 2013 and 2015, according to a draft report by the Department of the Interior.
According to the DOI’s Office of Inspector General, the BIA officials in Billings, Mont., responsible for overseeing the tribes’ use of federal funds were “not familiar with how to review (financial) reports and had not received training.”
