Bemidji Pioneer: Warm weather with a sizzle: Paul Bunyan Communications holds annual celebration

BEMIDJI—The sun was shining and the fish were frying Wednesday at the Paul Bunyan Communications annual Cooperative Celebration.

"It's a totally free community event that everyone is welcome at," says Brian Bissonette, marketing supervisor for Paul Bunyan Communications. Attendance for the event, held the Wednesday before Memorial Day weekend, ranges anywhere from 6,000 to 6,500 people every year thanks to Bemidji residents and even some out-of-towners who come to enjoy the free food and live entertainment. This year, local band Wrecking Crew performed and the event was visited by none other than Tommy, Chuckie, and Angelica from the hit Nickelodeon series "Rugrats," who were more than happy to give out hugs and high-fives to excited children. Children also were welcome to partake in face painting, as put on by members of the Grant Valley 4-H Club.
