Shakopee Mdewakaton Sioux Community Mobile Unit visits Ponemah

The Shakopee Mdewakaton Sioux Community is a federally recognized, sovereign Indian Tribe located southwest of Minneapolis/St.Paul. The community has an 80-foot long mobile medical clinic, offering healthcare on wheels.

The mobile unit includes equipment to perform X-rays, Mammograms, as well as Dental and Vision checkups. They send the truck out to many communities across MN. Red Lake has been fortunate enough to be a community included in their service for the last 9 years.

The Red Lake Comprehensive Health Services School Dental Prevention Program worked with Dan Hockinson and Sharon Kettler (both from Shakopee) at the Ponemah Elementary school at the beginning of April 2018. They were able to provide many children with dental cleanings, fluoride applications, applied sealants to undecayed teeth and applications of a temporary sedative material placed for relief of pain to those that needed it.

There is a gentleman from Shakopee (Pete) that was kind enough to donate a large number of toothbrushes to each student along with extras to their family members.

The kids pictured are smiling brightly with their gift from Pete. It was great working with the Mdewakaton mobile unit and their staff.

Our team is looking forward to working with the mobile unit again this fall. We appreciate beyond words the opportunity to work with them and to serve the beautiful children on the Red Lake Reservation.
