Red Lake Nation Annual Youth Conference kicks off at the Red Lake Humanities Center - P10

 

RED LAKE - The Red Lake Nation Youth Conference 2018 kicked off at the Red Lake Humanities Center at 6 PM on Wednesday, May 2nd, beginning with the Miikawaadizi "Be Beautiful" Fashion Show. About 40 women and children participated in the show.

A performance by Becca Lynn followed, as well as a performance by comedians Kasey Nicholson and Bobby Wilson of the "1491's" and a Round Dance Social.

Day 2 will begin with registration at the Red Lake High School Lobby, breakfast, prayer and smudge, and Grand Entry by Red Lake Royalty wqith the Little Bear Drum Group.

Chairman Darrell Seki Sr. will have the welcome address, and other speakers include Melinda Crowley, Red Lake Schools Superintendent, Tracy Olson, RLHS Principal, Reyna Lussier and Jessica Urrutia-Cook from Red Lake Chemical Health and Youth Council President Matthew Antone and Youth Council members.

Workshops will be available the rest of the afternoon:

Room 1: Pow-wow Zumba – Athena Cloud

Room 2: Healthy Relationships - TJ & Chance Rush

Room 3: Wellness and Food Sovereignty– David Manuel

Room 4: Healthy Eating – Debra Hawthorn

Room 5: Laughter is Medicine - Kasey Nicholson & Bobby Wilson

Culture Room: Youth Empowerment – Dyami Thomas & Becca Lynn

These workshops will be followed by "Grandfather Teachings" with Thomas C. Barrett (Thomas X), and a banquet will be held at 6 PM at the Seven Clans Casino Event Center.

Day 3 will be held on Friday and go until 3 PM.
