Radford prosecutor, school officials disagree over embezzlement warning

Radford’s commonwealth’s attorney blasted the city school system Monday for allowing the theft of more than $250,000 by a now deceased employee — the longtime head of the schools’ food services.

“It was preventable,” prosecutor Chris Rehak wrote in a statement sent to media organizations early Monday. He faulted “negligent record management, lackadaisical security measures and careless accounting efforts” on the part of the school system, and said school administrators ignored a warning from employees as far back as 2010.
