Anonymous bidder buys pipe, gives to Sioux nation

A chief of the Sioux nation said his “prayers have been answered” after a sacred stone pipe was purchased at a Boston auction and is being returned to his home.

Chief Arvol Looking Horse, 64, of South Dakota — the 19th generation “Keeper of the Pipe” — said the relic belongs to his people and an anonymous benefactor who out-bid all others last weekend is returning the $40,000 pipe to him.
