Arocha found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in fatal wedding party stabbing

Much of Shane LaPlant's family was gripped by disbelief on Wednesday after a jury found William Alberto Arocha Jr. guilty of voluntary manslaughter for fatally stabbing LaPlant 26 times in East Glacier near a wedding reception for Arocha's father.

The jury was unanimous in its decision on the manslaughter charge, as was the decision finding Arocha not guilty of second-degree murder in the July 5, 2017, death. The jury's verdict essentially spared Arocha a potential life sentence in federal prison. The maximum for voluntary manslaughter is 15 years.
