Jason Metsa Proposes Paid Family and Medical Leave for all Minnesotans

Saint Paul, MN – Today, MN-08 Congressional Candidate Jason Metsa proposed an amendment in the Minnesota House of Representatives to guarantee paid family and medical leave for all Minnesota employees.

“This is personal for me: I was lucky enough to work at a place that gave me the time I needed to care for both of my grandfathers in their last days. When my son Josiah was born last year, I had the privilege of staying at home with him for a precious few months of his early life,” Metsa said.

“Paid family and medical leave should be personal for all of us. No one can argue that they haven’t needed what this legislation provides at some point in their lives. But thousands of people struggle every day to care for their loved ones because neither the state legislature, nor Congress, have managed to get this done.

“To those who say it will hurt businesses: our Fortune 500 companies like Medtronic, Target, and 3M already provide these protections to families in other countries because those countries have prioritized people over profits. We need to do the same and hold big corporations accountable to doing right by their employees.”

In 2016, Metsa authored the Paid Family and Medical Leave Act. This amendment, if adopted, would provide all working families the opportunity to access paid family and medical leave through their employers.
