Headwaters Music and Art of Bemidji hosts its Headwaters Open-Mic Coffeehouse Friday, May 4

Headwaters Music and Art of Bemidji hosts its Headwaters Open-Mic Coffeehouse Friday, May 4 at 7 PM. Sign-up begins at 6:30. Held on the first Friday of most months, the CoffeeHouse features open-mic music and spoken word performance in a supportive and family-friendly environment. Good coffeehouse fare is available courtesy of Cantabria Coffee Co.

Local singer and songwriter Doyle Turner hosts this month"s CoffeeHouse. Turner first performed at the Northwoods Folk Collective First Friday Coffeehouse twenty-five years ago; he holds the experience instrumental to his development as a performer. Since that time, Turner has played in multiple venues across the region, delighting audiences with his rich tone and thoughtful lyrics.

All ages and skill levels are encouraged to sign up for a 10 to 15 minute set. Admission is $3/person or $7/family.

April's CoffeeHouse featured a family string band, a Simon and Garfunkel sing-a-long, a punk-rock balladier, and much more.

Interestingly, Turner finds his richest CoffeeHouse experiences as a member of the audience. "I'm looking forward to those moments that happen at every Coffeehouse, those moments that catch you off guard." Maybe it is the unexpected quality of a voice or the direction of a melody, Turner noted.

"Always, there is the courage of the performers. These are the moments that make the First Friday Coffeehouse something I love being a part of."

Headwaters Open-Mic CoffeeHouse is a volunteer-led community event. Contact John Henningsgaard at 444-9845 for more information.
