St. Paul Public Schools joins data project to keep at-risk students out of jail

Despite concerns about how student information might be used, the St. Paul school board has signed on to a data-driven project that aims to identify and help at-risk students before they turn to crime.

Ramsey County Attorney John Choi’s office has been leading the effort for about four years. The school board Tuesday joined the county commission in agreeing to form a joint powers board. The city council is expected to act next month, and the Northeast Metro Intermediate School District is another potential partner.
