Red Lake To Host Eighth Annual Gathering of Elders

Anishaa (Just for Fun) will make up much of the agenda when Red Lake hosts its Eighth Annual Gathering of Elders at Seven Clans Casino (Red Lake) on Monday and Tuesday, April 30 - May 1, 2018. The event will include informational booths on tribal programs and services available for elders.

An important part of the Gathering has been to provide a venue for youth and elders to interact and learn from each other. Red Lake young people will mix with their elders as volunteers, and providing information and entertainment.

The event begins with registration on Monday morning at 8. At 9 a.m., Spiritual Leader and Hereditary Chief Greeting Spears, Jr., will offer the invocation, followed by drum songs by Eyabay, and then a welcome and opening remarks by Red Lake Chairman Darrell G. Seki, Sr.

Information will be provided to elders by the various tribal program directors. Sessions on the agenda include; suicide awareness, public safety, a report on youth cultural camps, Ojibwe puppet show, bingo, King & Queen selection, and a Youth Showcase.

Entertainment will include Music by "Travesty" from Turtle Mountain, a dance competition, and a special performance by nationally known comedians Williams and Ree. (The Indian & the White Guy)

All elders from all nations 55+ are invited, meals will be provided.
