Two Fishermen who went missing on Red Lake are located

At about 2:15 on March 21, 2018 Red Lake Conservation officers, and a tribal council representative located one of two missing fisherman in about 4 1/2 feet of water near second bridge on lower Red Lake. The drowning victim was identified as the 17 year old juvenile male who was originally reported as missing along with Deland Beaulieu, age 29 back in early November 2017 after they went fishing.

On todays date, just prior to 8:00am, the same group of searchers located the second missing fisherman's body about 150 feet away from where the first drowning victim was located on the previous day.

Both fisherman were located with the ROV which is a remote operated vehicle used for conducting underwater searches thru the use of sonar and a underwater camera.

Families were informed of both recoveries and the bodies were transported to the Indian Health service hospital in Red lake. Autopsies will be scheduled on both parties to determine official cause of death.

Red Lake Law enforcement and some community members has been searching tirelessly and with perseverance since November 6, 2017 and has spent the last 6 months and has logged in thousands of hours searching for the missing fisherman in inclement weather and sub zero temperatures in hopes of bringing closure

Red Lake law enforcement was assisted by several agencies throughout the recovery operation. These agencies brought in equipment, technology and aerial support used to cover large search areas and eliminated 100's of acres ultimately leading to Red Lake searching new areas and discovering the bodies.

The assisting agencies and organizations were identified as Leech Lake Reservation Conservation Enforcement, St Louis County Search & Rescue, Crossman Consulting, Grand Forks County Search & Rescue, Stutsman County Search & Rescue and Valley Rescue, MN DNR, US Border Patrol, FBI, Beltrami County Sheriffs Department and some of these agencies came in from distant North Dakota locations.

Operations were also supported by the following Red Lake Tribal Programs; Red Lake Fire Department, DNR, Fisheries, Roads Department and Seven Clans Casino.

The recovery mission was completely supported by the Red Lake Tribal Council throughout the entire operation and the families can now have closure.
